The Pork Economy and its Competitors in a Changing International Context

In a revised presentation format followed by an interview, this talk provides an analysis of the evolution of international trade in animal products over the past 25 years, with a focus on pork. It also looks at the trajectories of the European pork economy and internal competitions. During the interview, we will take a deeper look at the Canadian position in this changing context.

Vincent Chatellier
Research Engineer INRAE

Vincent Chatellier is a research engineer in economics at INRAE (Institut national de recherche pour l'agriculture, l'alimentation et l'environnement - France). He is the Deputy Director of the SMART Blended Research Unit. He has been a correspondent member of the Académie d’Agriculture de France since 2022 and was President of the Société Française d’Economie Rurale (SFER) from 2019 to 2025.

He has published, alone or in collaboration, more than 100 book chapters or articles in peer-reviewed journals. His work focuses on three areas: agricultural sector economics at international, European and French levels; the diversity of farm performance in France and the European Union; and public policies, fiscal support and regulations related to agricultural markets. He co-directed an impressive collective work (1,230 pages) published in 2025 titled: “Politiques agricoles : théories, histoires, réformes et expériences.”
