Three economists specializing in agriculture will share their vision for pork production in Québec, Canada and the world. They will discuss the factors sustaining the demand for pork and other animal proteins, the current and future challenges, as well as strategies to optimize its market positioning.

Catherine Brodeur, Agr., M. Sc.
Partner and Vice-President - Economic Research Groupe AGÉCO

Catherine Brodeur is an agricultural economist. She is Vice-President Economic Studies and partner at Groupe AGÉCO where she has been providing strategic advice to agri-food businesses and organizations for almost 25 years. During her career, Catherine has overseen numerous analysis mandates on the competitiveness and performance of Québec's and Canada's pork industry.

Jean-Philippe Gervais, Ph. D.
Executive Vice-President, Strategy and Impact & Chief Economist Farm Credit Canada

J.P. Gervais is Executive Vice-President, Strategy and Impact and Chief Economist at FCC.

His insights help guide the organization’s strategy to increase productivity through innovation, address barriers for Indigenous and under-represented groups in the ag and food industry and advance Canada’s global leadership in food security and sustainable food production.

Jean-Philippe is a featured guest speaker at industry events, providing analysis of economic trends that drive the profitability of agribusinesses, ag producers and food and beverage processors.

Prior to joining FCC in 2010, Jean-Philippe  was a professor of agricultural economics at North Carolina State University and Laval University. J.P. is a Fellow of the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society. He obtained his Ph. D. in economics from Iowa State University in 1999.

Its main interests are global economy, economic trends relevant to agriculture, agri-businesses and food processing, and risk management.

Brett Stuart is the president of Global AgriTrends. The firm was organized in 2006 and provides global market research, analysis and forecasting to a variety of clients around the world. He was formerly the lead economist for the U.S. Meat Export Federation. His work regularly takes him to overseas markets, providing analysis and intel throughout the global agriculture sector. Mr. Stuart has conducted on-the-ground agriculture industry research on six continents for a variety of clients in the private and public sectors.

Brett was raised on a cattle ranch operating in Utah and Wyoming. He received an undergraduate degree in accounting at Utah State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska. He and his wife Amanda live with their kids on a farm near Preston, Idaho.
