Low Birth Rate? Do Something About It!

A high birth rate is one of the most important objectives to achieve to maximize the profitability of maternities. This talk will provide a practical review of the elements to check to maintain or improve this key indicator.

Martine Denicourt, DVM, M. Sc.
Guest professor and consultant in pork medicine University of Montreal / Services vétérinaires ambulatoires Triple-V inc.

Martine Denicourt graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Université de Montréal in 1984. She continued her studies at the same institution and obtained a Master's degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences in 1987.

From 1987 to 2000, she practiced as a consultant in the private sector specializing in pork production. This experience allowed her to collaborate with independent breeders as well as stakeholders from several companies.

In 2000, Martine Denicourt joined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV) as a part-time invited professor while continuing her consulting activities. She also joined the SVA TRIPLE-V INC group upon its creation in 2015.

She actively participates in various committees related to pork production, including the committee on judicious use of antibiotics, EQSP-équipe technique santé and the depopulation team, as well as the Réseau porcin (MAPAQ). She has also served as a validator for the AQC program since 1996, a role she continues to fulfill within the Canadian Pork Excellence program.

Martine Denicourt has been actively involved on the board of directors of AVIA (Association des vétérinaires en industrie du Québec), where she served as vice-president and president for several years. More recently, she sat on the board of directors of the Canadian Association of Swine Veterinarians.

Within the FMV, Martine Denicourt is involved in training students interested in pork medicine. She also serves as a mentor and teaches courses on large animal populations. Deeply committed to animal welfare, she pays particular attention to end-of-life care for animals.

For over ten years, she has provided training on euthanasia for students, producers, and industry stakeholders. She collaborates on various projects and teams within the FMV, including a recent project on exudative epidermitis in piglets.
