Gene editing is a type of genetic engineering in which DNA is inserted, deleted, modified or replaced in the genome of a living organism. We will discuss how removing the CD163 protein in commercial pig lines provides resistance to PRRSV in vivo, without negatively affecting performance and reproduction.
To fight antibiotic resistance, the work to reduce antibiotic usage is progressively making its way into pork farms. To prevent diseases and keep herds healthy, using vaccination is called for, but it needs to be properly mastered!
PRRS eradication in farrowing barns works well when basic rules are followed. For a long time, many thought it impossible to do this in farrow-to-finish type herds without depopulating the herd. With time, various attempts were made to better control the virus in this type of production and thus, lower production costs. In this presentation, we’ll look at the aspects linked to the successful eradication of PRRS in farrow-to-wean barn and among farrow-to-finish as well as how to successfully eradicate cost effectively.
Since the turn of the 21st century, the global pork industry has been affected by four major viral infections including ASF, which, since 2018, has been threatening Canada and other pork exporting countries. In 2020, it’s a human infection that indirectly affected the large animal populations. Faced with these threats, let’s examine whether what we’re doing on our farms is still enough…
