Understanding better sow feeding behaviour in order to achieve an optimal feed intake

Do you know how and when your sows eat? To understand the regulation of feed intake and its interactions with the diet and the environment, it is important to study factors affecting the feeding behaviour of our sows’. How as a producer, you can have an impact on it.

Professor Bruno Silva has a degree in animal science from Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Brazil), and a Masters in Animal bioclimatology at the same institution. Received his PhD in animal bioclimatology and swine nutrition from Universidade Federal de Viçosa – UFV (Brazil) and the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique - INRA (France) and a post - doctorate in Swine Nutrition from the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Brazil).

Worked as a researcher (Institute for Pig Genetics IPG bv, Netherlands) and swine nutritionist for TOPIGS Norsvin International. Since 2012, is a professor and researcher in Swine Nutrition and Swine Production and Environmental Adaptation at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG/ ICA, Brazil). Prof. Bruno Silva is also head of the Pig research unit at UFMG/ ICA.

Currently, his research is focused on studying feeding behaviour and precision feeding of gestating and lactating sows under tropical conditions. Has several publications and international conferences in the field of nutritional requirements and environmental adaptation of pigs in tropical regions. He is also an associate editor of the international scientific journal "Animal: An International Journal of Animal Bioscience" and a reviewer for several international Journals. Next to the university activities he is also a consultant for several multinational companies in the field of swine nutrition and environmental adaptation for Latin America, Europe and Asia.
